Genesis in the plan
• LECP 254: Transitions at key stages of the education process. Pre-school to primary
school - promote the implementation of "Little Steps to Big School" transition
programme county-wide, developed by Louth County Childcare, DkIT and Louth
Leader Partnership. Currently the programme is being revamped and reviewed
through a focus group hosted by Genesis and attended by many stakeholders. Genesis
will focus on rolling the programme out to the disadvantaged deis school areas and
Louth County Childcare with a wider county remit
• Alternative services in the community for citizens with intellectual disabilities, mental
health problems, long-term unemployed. One way we can do this is by supporting “social
farming” through shared spaces
Action: Support Social Farming Programmes and Animal Therapy Programmes
• Mental wellbeing actions for rural isolated older people
• (Action 2.13) Short Sighted – Needs to be expanded to “whole community” approach.
Should be looking at mental health for rural isolated older people
• (LECP Goal 4) Community involvement and connectivity is key to positive mental and
physical health
• A whole of Louth strategy for pre-retirement planning – connecting the individual to
their community before they retire
• Bringing businesses, community services together
Action: Support mental health and wellbeing actions for older people living in
isolated rural areas including pre-retirement planning connecting individuals to
their communities and the business community
